Program Information

The Kuban (Western) tur is generally accepted as any animal living west of Mt. Elbrus in the Caucasus Mountains in the Republic of Karachay-Cherkessia, Russia. Larger than the mid-Caucasian tur, with a more ibex like appearance.

The mid-Caucasian tur is considered to be found east of Mt. Elbrus and west of the Republic of North Ossetia, solely within the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, Russia. It is a natural  cross between the west Caucasian (Kuban)  and east Caucasian (Dagestan) turs. Compared to the true west Caucasian tur the mid-Caucasian tur is described as slightly taller. The horns of some animals tend to look almost exactly like either the Eastern or Western tur, while most exhibit horn characteristics of both.

Hunting area is steep a and the hunter must be in good physical condition. Hunting is carry out by foot from a base camp and some nights in tents are often required. In some places hunters will be helped with horses.

From our hunting area is it possible the combo of the mid-Caucasian and Kuban tur, and also the Caucasian chamois.  This is an amazing but demanding hunting, in one of the most wonderful mountainous areas on earth, and with the option to harvest, in the same trip, three species of the Capra Grand Slam.

Hunting season

August 1st to November 25th. August is good season because of the weather conditions, but the animals are often in the peaks. Late October and beginning of November is the rut time and the snow forces the animals to go down of the mountains.

Karachay-Cherkessia  and Kabardino-Balkaria Republics, depending of the species and the chosen area. If the combo includes Caucasian chamois, the hunters will be moved to North Ossetia to hunt the chamois once the tur is harvested.
