Program Information

Surrounded by breathtaking tundra landscapes in the middle of nowhere, this hunt is a true adventure for wild hunting and backpack lovers. The European reindeer, also called caribou, is the animal who has the biggest trophy respect to its body size. It lives in the tundra of northern Europe, and one of the largest populations is located in Norway. In this area there is an estimated population of about a thousand reindeer heads, of which approximately 170 are trophy size males. Like its cousin, the Canadian caribou, the reindeer is a migratory animal and the migration depends on several factors: the weather, the presence of flies and parasites, and of course the food. In a normal migration year, without any kind of trouble, in 2-3 days the hunting is usually finished. Despite this, a minimum of five hunting days is recommended, since the weather in northern areas is unpredictable.

It is a 100% backpack hunting, so the first day, until you reach the chosen hunting place, you have to carry the tent and the sleeping bag in your backpack, apart from the rest of the gear to spend five days hunting. The hunter must be prepared to make long walks in open and mountainous terrain… It is a very physical hunt. Once the animal is harvested, the Norwegian hunting law requires that all meat must be removed from the tundra, apart of course from the trophy. There are no mechanical means, therefore it is the hunter who must carry the animal’s meat to the vehicle. The rental of a draft horse is highly recommended, since an empty and skinned reindeer can exceed 80 kg of meat weight, apart of the trophy. Your guide is there to assist you in the hunt, guide you and choose the best animal possible, and may assist you in the task but is not obliged to carry the meat on his back.

We are far to the north and the weather is totally unpredictable. Even if it´s mostly a summer hunting (August  and beginning of September) we can have snowfall, fog, rain… we can find the 4 seasons in only one day, so  it is mandatory  to get dressed in layers and bring light cold gear.

We can also offer, under request, a VIP program in some privileged areas where it is possible to sleep in a comfortable lodge.
